With the baby boomers retiring and slowly moving into senior living conditions, modular homes are becoming a more popular option for them.
Modular Homes for Senior Living
In the U.S. there are about 72 million baby boomers, meaning that there will be a high demand for senior living spaces. In 10 years, there will be thousands more retiring and homes will need to be built affordably and quickly.
In fact, in this year alone there will need to be about 28,000 new units online and an additional 67,000 new units to keep up with the high demand.
Unfortunately, the construction workforce is getting smaller since Millennials generally aren’t wanting manual labor jobs.
However, there is a solution that builders are looking to–modular homes. Marriott Hotels has recently begun using modular buildings and so others are following suit.
The homes can be customized to fit the senior’s needs and to the size they’d like it. The difficult part is setting up medical needs, but hopefully, that will be doable.
Modular home building could be the go-to answer to help fix the possible housing crisis for seniors and the smaller construction workforce.
In the next 20 years, we could see a huge shift in how and where seniors are living.
